Tracey Emin British, b. 1963
n 2002, Tracey Emin released “Tattoo,” a limited edition diptych print that delves into themes of personal identity and self-reflection. The work comprises two parts:
• Left Panel: A handwritten letter in which Emin contemplates her desire to remove her tattoos, reflecting on the aspirations and experiences of her younger self.
• Right Panel: Four candid Polaroid photographs capturing Emin’s tattoos and her face, offering an intimate glimpse into her personal narrative.
The diptych measures approximately 21 x 29.3 cm per sheet and was produced in an edition of 200, each signed and numbered by the artist.
“Tattoo” exemplifies Emin’s confessional style, using personal artifacts to explore broader themes of memory, identity, and the passage of time.
