In Ascend in Dance, Ai-Hua Lin captures a sense of lightness, movement and renewal. Set against a radiant field of luminous yellow, the painting unfolds like a vision of summer air and blossoming life. White lilies rise gently through the composition, their forms softened by layers of translucent colour, while a small dragonfly hovers above like a fleeting note of music. The overall effect is one of buoyancy and quiet celebration.

Lin’s use of colour is especially striking here. The glowing yellow ground infuses the work with warmth and vitality, while fresh greens and soft whites create a delicate balance between energy and calm. Her layered handling of paint allows forms to appear and dissolve in equal measure, giving the composition an ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere. Rather than describing nature literally, Lin evokes its emotional presence, allowing memory, sensation and observation to merge.

The title, Ascend in Dance, suggests both physical movement and spiritual uplift. The flowers seem to sway upward, animated by light and air, while the dragonfly introduces a sense of grace and transformation. As with much of Lin’s work, the painting invites the viewer into a gentle inner world, one shaped by wonder, stillness and the restorative beauty of nature.
