These works reflect on the accumulation of moments, both significant and seemingly insignificant, and how each leaves a trace over time.
Through the slow building of surface, Jennifer Newman creates compositions that resemble geological formations or excavated walls, where layers are revealed, eroded, and reformed. Pigments, crushed minerals, marble dust and silver leaf are worked into raw linen to create tactile surfaces that speak of pressure, time, and transformation.
Earth Space III & IV consider beauty not as something fixed or pristine, but as something refined through experience — shaped by reflection, resilience, and the careful consideration of each event encountered along the way. The works invite close viewing, encouraging the eye to move across strata and seams, discovering moments of stillness, disruption, and quiet luminosity within the surface.
